About Us

Notman Philanthropy House is a collaborative hub in the heart of Montreal, bringing together values-aligned organizations working to create positive change for people and the planet.

Modelled after the success of Foundation House in Toronto, Notman Philanthropy House serves as a centre of activity for changemakers who are reimagining how we work together to serve the common good. More than just shared office space, it’s a place where ideas become action, where cross-sector collaboration flourishes, and where “roomies” are committed to giving back to the broader community. By offering welcoming and functional space downtown, we hope to ensure greater accessibility and encourage the development of community initiatives in the heart of Montreal.

There has long been a strong appetite for greater collaboration among philanthropic organizations—but making that a reality takes intention and space. By co-locating organizations that work on a range of social and environmental issues, we aim to create the conditions for innovation, collective learning, and new partnerships. The House offers meeting rooms, convening spaces, and work spaces for visiting organizations. Since opening its doors in 2019 on St.Alexandre Street, it has hosted community groups, grantees, funders, and even a few (philanthropy) house parties.

What began as a bold idea has now taken root at the historic Notman House and St. Margaret Hospital buildings. Today, Notman Philanthropy House is home to a growing number of organizations dedicated to creating positive impact—together.

FAQ

What renovations will take place?

We are undertaking a deep retrofit of both Notman House and the St-Margaret Hospital, to decarbonize the buildings and operations. The renovations aim to make them higher performance in energy and carbon terms, and more sustainable for the long-term.

We expect to begin renovations in fall 2024, with the aim of completing the initial phase in 2026.

For the time being, room rentals and events have been put on hold while renovations are ongoing. We invite you to check back here for more information as this work progresses

We do not commit to responding to all organizations that submit an application.  This is simply an expression of interest (EOI). You will receive an automatic acknowledgement of receipt only.

Yes! Cafe Osmo x Marusan will remain open during the renovations. The Cafe can be accessed through the side entrance on Clark Street.
